AfCFTA Secretariat Participates in Preparatory Senior Officials Meeting Ahead of the 2026 Korea–Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 31 May 2026 – The AfCFTA Secretariat participated in the Preparatory Senior Officials Meeting for the 2026 Korea–Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, scheduled to take place on 2 June 2026.

Discussions focused on strengthening Africa–Korea cooperation, advancing the implementation of the AfCFTA and expanding partnerships in trade, digital systems and industrial development.

Key outcomes of the meeting included strong support for the Korea–AfCFTA Cooperation Fund, enhanced capacity-building for customs authorities, support for the establishment of a One-Stop Origin Management System, and the sharing of expertise from the Republic of Korea’s extensive experience in Free Trade Agreements.

Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic cooperation, promoting infrastructure development and strengthening institutional capacity across Africa.

During the discussions, the AfCFTA Secretariat highlighted its growing partnership with the Government of the Republic of Korea, including collaboration with KTNet on the Origin Management System, startup acceleration initiatives with the Korea–Africa Foundation, Single Window development with CUPIA, trade and transport facilitation initiatives with KAIST, and private sector engagement through the Korea International Trade Association (KITA).

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Africa and the Republic of Korea to strengthening economic cooperation and supporting the effective implementation of the AfCFTA as a driver of trade, investment and sustainable development.
